Man the Bon Appétit OST is super underrated by people. Why, though? Are you guys so used to other rhythm games that you can't appreciate something that has no vocals or something?
Anyway, I have to talk about this one instead of ranting about other people's weird tastes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lol
This mashup was done due to the fact I needed variety and a friend (Atsu again) recommended me to use something from Bon Appétit. Then he showed me two musics that, in his opininon, were the ones who would make good mashups: Ryouna's theme and Imu's theme.
I had a lot of trouble thinking of something to mash with Imu's theme and tried making something until the very end of the process of making this album, but I couldn't get anything done. In Ryouna's case, however, I actually got an idea to work with after some research and brainstorming - in which Atsu also helped with, since he is the one who suggested using 'hard rock' at the time - and then I finally got the idea of slapping Heart's "Barracuda" to see if it stuck. It was actually bound to sorta work since they were in the same key, but I had to test it anyway.
While working on the mashup I showed a rough result of the thing to my friend and he thought that it was ok, but had the feeling that the two songs didn't really work that well together while I was sorta on the fence about it. After a couple of tweaks and more listens I realized that the way I structured everything reminds me of some sort of Blues style or something and since then the mashup started to sound a lot more interesting to my ears.
And in the end we have this weird thing you are probably listening to. It maybe strange sounding, but I love the results on this one.
By the way, the title of this track was also suggested by Atsu. I laughed my ass off after seeing this suggestion and I needed to use it ASAP. "Barricuda" for me, a native brazilian portuguese speaker, resembles "Barriguda" which means "big belly" (feminine) and it totally fits with Bon Appétit's food theme!
